Council trims three departments and holds the pool budget flat

A familiar story, told with the parts that usually get cut.

The council met for ninety minutes on Tuesday and spent most of it on a single line item. What follows is the short version, with the numbers that actually moved.

What changed in the budget

Three departments took reductions. The full packet runs to 214 pages, but the summary table is on page nine.

  • Streets and sanitation, down 4.2 percent
  • Parks, down 1.8 percent, with the pool budget held flat
  • Library, up 0.6 percent after two years of cuts

The pool line, specifically

Held flat means the same $412,000 as last year, which after inflation is a real cut of about six percent.

Flat is not flat. Everybody in this room knows that.
